"이어도연구회는 ‘우리 땅 우리 바다 이어도’를 지키기 위한 연구 단체다. 2007년 해양수산부의 인가로 설립된 이래 지금까지 우리나라 해양주권 수호와 이어도의 자연, 해양, 문화와 관련된 국내외적인 조사, 분석 등의 활동을 하고 있다. 또 이어도 종합해양과학기지에 관한 다양한 연구 및 이어도 교육과 홍보에도 앞장서고 있다. 이 책은 우리나라 국민들이 이어도의 가치와 의미를 되새기고, 나아가 해양영토의 중요성을 인식했으면 하는 바람으로 그간의 연구 활동 결과를 대중과 공유하기 위해 쉽게 풀어 쓴 것이다.
