"1975년생의 다발 킴은 프랫 인스티튜트에서 이학석사학위를 받은 후 미국에서의 첫개인전을 필두로 본격적인 현대미술의 장에 뛰어들었다. 2006년 국제사막예술프로젝트에 참여한 것을 계기로 국내외에서 시각예술가 및 감독, 기획자로서의 활발한 행보를 보여주었다. 사막은 작가의 예술적 고향 및 모국어가 되어 이후의 예술적 작업에 명시적이거나 암시적인 바탕이 되어 주었다. 다발 킴은 출발과 목적지가 확정될 수 없는 유목의 지대에서 자신의 트레이드마크가 된 붉은 스타킹을 신고 차이를 낳을 반복적 출발을 감행한다. 그녀의 예술적 여정은 광활하고 황량한 바깥이 원래 예술이 자리하는 곳임을 알려준다.
Dabal Kim (b. 1975), after graduating with an MSc from Pratt Institue, delved into the contemporary art scene with a solo exhibition in the United States. With Kim’s participation in the International Desert Project in 2006, she began actively working as a visual artist and director. The desert, throughout the years, became Kim’s artistic home and mother tongue, providing both explicit and implicit grounds for her practice. In a nomadic site with no clear departure and destination, Dabal Kim wears her signature red stockings and creates multitudes of beginnings. Her artistic journey shows that the vast and desolate outdoors are where art should reside. "
